Kubota E:022: Fan rpm control solenoid valve cable broken

The system has detected an open circuit (a broken wire or disconnected plug) in the circuit controlling the cooling fan's RPM solenoid. As a built-in fail-safe to prevent the engine and hydraulics from overheating, the machine will automatically default the fan speed to its highest level.

   Verify the symptom: Start the machine and listen to the cooling fan. If E:022 is active, the fan should be roaring at its maximum speed regardless of engine temperature.

   Visually inspect the fan RPM control solenoid valve (typically on the hydraulic control valve block or near the hydraulic fan motor), wiring harness, pigtail, and connector for physical damage, severed wires, or loose connections.

   Use a multimeter to check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the main harness.

   Ohm-test the solenoid coil itself. If the coil shows an open circuit (infinite resistance), the internal cable/winding is broken.

   Park the machine on a level surface, lower the lift arms, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Access the hydraulic control valve/fan motor area.

   Usually requires opening the rear door and lifting the cab or accessing the engine bay panels.

   Repair the wiring harness if a broken wire was found.

   Strip back the damaged wire, solder a repair splice, and seal it with heat-shrink tubing.

   Disconnect the hydraulic solenoid from the control valve assembly.

   Perform this if the break is internal to the solenoid valve or its molded pigtail.

   Install the new solenoid valve.

   Ensure O-rings are seated properly to prevent hydraulic leaks.

   Plug the solenoid connector into the machine's wiring harness.

   Reconnect the battery, start the machine, and verify the repair.

   Verify that the E:022 code clears from the dash and that the fan operates at a normal, variable speed.
