Kubota E:9117 – Engine ECU (Engine Control Module): Air heater system error

Malfunction in the engine's intake air heater circuit (grid heater), which is responsible for warming the incoming air to assist with cold starting. This fault aligns with OBD2 code P0380 (Air heater relay driving circuit abnormality).

   Check the wiring harness: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the intake air heater and the heater relay for chafed insulation, loose connections, or corrosion.

   Test the air heater relay: Using a multimeter, verify that the relay is receiving the trigger signal (voltage) from the Engine ECU when the key is turned to the 'ON' position during a cold start.

   Test the heater element: Check the intake grid heater element for continuity. If the element has infinite resistance (an open circuit), the heater itself has burned out.

   Check battery voltage: Ensure the battery is fully charged, as low system voltage during cranking can sometimes trigger false relay faults.

   Disconnect Power

   Always disconnect the negative battery cable first to prevent short-circuiting the system.

   Locate the Relay

   Locate the air heater relay, which is typically mounted on a bracket in the engine compartment near the ECU or main fuse block.

   Remove Connections

   Disconnect the trigger wires from the relay. Then, remove the nuts securing the heavy-gauge main power cables to the relay mounting studs.

   Dismount the Relay

   Remove the mounting screws/bolts securing the relay bracket to the machine.

   Install the New Relay

   Position the new relay and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Reattach the main power cables to the studs and tighten the nuts. Reconnect the trigger wires.

   Restore Power

   Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the ignition key to the 'ON' position to verify the glow/heater cycle completes normally and the E:9117 code clears.
