Kubota P208B – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Powertrain Control Module (PCM): Reductant Pump Control Range/Performance / DEF/AdBlue freeze warning
Fehlerbeschreibung
The control module has detected a malfunction in the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) pump motor or the DEF fluid thaw/heating system. The DEF pump motor may be uncontrollable (motor step out) or the system is unable to properly thaw frozen DEF fluid. Because the system cannot inject DEF into the exhaust to reduce NOx emissions, the tractor will inhibit DPF regeneration, illuminate a red exclamation warning light, and eventually enter a severe power reduction (derate) mode.

Ursache prüfen
Ensure the DEF tank is not empty and the fluid is not contaminated. Turn the tractor off for a while and restart it to see if the thaw cycle resets.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors going to the DEF pump and PCM for damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Note: Kubota explicitly states that wire harness repairs are not approved; damaged harnesses must be replaced.
Test the DEF line heaters, heater relays, and the heater valve. Failures in the line heaters or the heater valve itself are highly common culprits for triggering this code during cold weather.
Hook up a scan tool (preferably Kubota Diagmaster) to read specific sub-codes (e.g., 5435-12 for DEF pump motor uncontrollable) and perform an active test on the reductant pump and heater circuits.
Reparaturschritte
Power Down
Turn off the machine, disconnect the battery, and ensure the exhaust system has cooled down to avoid fire/burn hazards.
Address Wiring/Heaters
If diagnostic testing revealed a short or open circuit in the DEF line heaters or heater valve, replace the faulty heating component or the damaged wiring harness.
Replace the DEF Pump/Injector
If the wiring and heaters are intact but the pump motor has failed (range/performance error), locate the DEF pump/injector assembly on the exhaust aftertreatment system. Disconnect the fluid lines and electrical connectors, unbolt the faulty pump, and install the new OEM replacement.
Replace Filters
It is highly recommended to replace the DEF tank filter screen and the DEF exhaust fluid filter while servicing the pump to prevent future blockages.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery and use a diagnostic tool to clear the P208B code.
Force Regeneration
Start the tractor, bring it up to operating temperature, and initiate a forced DPF regeneration cycle (often requiring 1500-2000 RPM) to ensure the DEF system is dosing correctly and to clear the dashboard warning lights.
